We had eight great weeks with you all, and I have to admit that the cold temperatures in April actually helped us with the quality of the shares this year. Also huge thanks to Little Bitte and the Worlds Fair Gallery for offering to be the pick up spot in Providence! What an amazing improvement over crowding into the front hall of our house!
Now it’s May, and we’ve had a couple of 90+ degree days, and all those spring greens need to come out of the high tunnels. For the rest of the month we will be planting and planting and planting to get ready for our main season. We hope you’ll join us on the next leg of our journey!
Hey folks, we know Spring has been slow to arrive this year, and the worms are barely even awake, but Early Bird pricing on CSA signups ends in 1 week! On April 24th, our Full Share prices will be increased to $550 and Half Shares to $280, so we’re hoping you all can sign up before that deadline to get a better deal on this season’s supply of Red Planet produce. Also, if you’ve been planning to join but not sure you can get the funds together for next week, just let us know you want in so we can get you on the list for the Early Bird price and we’ll just work out a payment plan.
We just received our first ever batch of locally made potting mix today from our friends at the Compost Plant. They mixed up a custom blend just for us to try out in our soil blocks because they are awesome people, and it seems to be working pretty great so far. We are proud and excited to be growing all our seedlings this year in this high quality potting soil made from local yard and food waste. Starting seeds is a rite of Spring on the farm and your CSA membership helps us to make it happen.
If you have already signed up, thank you. If you’re still trying to get around to it, please go get your share today to help us bring forth a bountiful farm season for 2018. And if you aren’t quite ready to make payment but want to reserve your spot, just get in touch with us at email@example.com!
FULL SHARE ($500) Great for a growing family or a smaller household of folks who use a lot of vegetables.
HALF SHARE ($250) If you’re not sure you’ll make use of all the produce you get each week in a Full Share, the Half Share gives you most of the same weekly variety, just less of it.
The busy season at the farm is beginning. We’re spending time and money on sowing seeds, greasing gears, sorting through spreadsheets, and greening up greenhouses. It’s that time of year when the farm has to buy all the stuff it needs to grow seedlings, buy or fix equipment, and prepare the fields for planting and harvest.
This work is the raw material we farmers put together each year to build the foundation for a great harvest. You can invest in the success of our work by joining 2018 Main Season CSA today. Your member shares are a crucial part of our yearly building process. Join the effort! Get your share of the 2018 Main Season CSA by signingup right here:
I’m so excited that after 16 years of growing vegetables; first trying to make all our own potting mix, then buying it from Vermont and feeling the pain in our wallets every year, then buying from New York, but dealing with all the plastic bags it comes in and negotiating convoluted ways to get it shipped for less money………FINALLY! We can buy organic potting mix from our friends RIGHT HERE in RI!
We’re hoping to get our first sling bag from the Compost Plant in the next couple weeks. It’s time to start the onions, and leeks, and some of the herbs and flowers that we’ll be growing for you this year. Sign up now for your main season CSA to pay early bird prices and help us make sure we get all the thing we need when we need them for a great season.
If you like your veggies, sign up to keep getting them right through the winter.
It starts next week folks! Our Winter CSA is your answer to bland store-bought kale and carrots that taste like cardboard, so make sure you get in on the fun. If you’d still like a share but haven’t gotten around to reserving one, drop what you’re doing and sign up today (or contact us to reserve a spot):
We are gearing up for the start of our early winter CSA. This will run from Sunday November 12 through the end of the year (weather and holiday depending we might go into 2018) For more info, like pricing, etc. go to https://redplanetvegetables.com/winter-csa-2017-2018/
Big news is that we are changing the day and location for pick ups in Providence. How about 3 til 5 at the clean, spacious, lovely World’s Fair Gallery at the Columbus Theater?and when you come to pick up your share you will see the gorgeous installation by Kelli Rae Adams, which was made with some of our vegetables!
Pick ups at the farm will be on MONDAYS starting November 13, from 4 to 6.
Don’t let the time of the pick ups keep you from joining. If you have questions email me at redplanetvegetables@gmail or text me at 401-273-0914.
